Badminton at Beijing 2008

Badminton competitions at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics will be held from August 9 to August 17.

5 sets of medals will be awarded in the following events:

An NOC may enter up to 3 qualified players/pairs in each event. A total of 64 athletes will qualify for each singles event and 16 pairs will qualify for each doubles event.

The main qualifying criteria will be the IBF Ranking List as of May 1, 2008. It will provide a total of 16 pairs in each doubles event and 38 athletes in each singles event, in the following manner:

Each continent is guaranteed one entry in each event. If this is not satisfied by the entry selection method described above, the highest ranking player/pair will be qualified. If there is no player/pair in the rankings, the winner of the most recently contested Continental Championship will be qualified.

The host nation (People's Republic of China) shall be entitled to enter 2 players in total, but more than 2 players are permitted if they all qualified under qualifying regulations. There will also be 2 invitational places in each singles event which will be allocated by the IOC Tripartite Commission. For additional qualifying info check the references below.
